Column Jacketing
Reliable
Column Jacketing
for Lasting Durability
Column Jacketing is a highly effective structural strengthening technique used to restore and enhance the load-bearing capacity of damaged, deteriorated, or underperforming reinforced concrete columns. The process involves encasing the existing column with reinforced concrete, steel, or micro-concrete to increase its cross-sectional area and improve structural performance. Column Jacketing enhances compressive strength, shear resistance, ductility, and seismic performance, making buildings safer and more reliable.
It is widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial structures affected by aging, corrosion, design deficiencies, or increased loading requirements. By reinforcing existing columns, this method extends the service life of the structure, improves overall stability, minimizes future maintenance needs, and provides a durable, cost-effective solution for long-term structural rehabilitation.
The main purpose of Column jacketing are
Increased Concrete Stability
Increases concrete stability by strengthening existing columns, improving load capacity and durability.
Advanced Shear Reinforcement
Enhances shear resistance through reinforced concrete jacketing, improving structural stability and strength.
Improved Flexural Performance
Enhances flexural strength, reducing bending stresses while improving structural stability and durability.
Long-Term Structural Protection
Provides lasting protection by improving durability, resisting deterioration, and extending the structure’s service life.
Features of Column Jacketing
- Reinforced concrete Jacketing: Added concrete with longitudinal and transverse reinforcement
- The sizes of the sections are increased and the free available usable space becomes less.
- The stiffness of the system is highly increased.
- Longitudinal bars need to be anchored to the foundation and should be continuous through the slab.
- Requires adequate dowelling to the existing column.
- The speed of implementation is slow.
Process Of Jacketing
- Supporting the loads on columns by means of mechanical jacks,
- Preparation of column which is to be strengthened,
- Installing dowels around, for fastening the reinforcements
- Installing new reinforcements,
- Coating the surface with epoxy,
- Pouring new concrete Non shrink M50 grade self compacting microconcrete.
- Fixing of NRV Lancers for grouting the epoxy injection for filling the gap between new concrete and old concrete and also for strengthen the existing core
