FRP Wrapping is an advanced structural strengthening technique used to enhance the strength, durability, and seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. It involves wrapping RC columns, beams, or slabs with high-strength, lightweight Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) sheets bonded using epoxy resin. These sheets consist of high-tensile fibers embedded in a polymer matrix, such as epoxy or vinyl ester, providing exceptional strength while adding minimal weight to the structure. The fibers are typically oriented perpendicular to the column’s longitudinal axis to improve confinement and load-bearing capacity.

FRP wrapping effectively increases shear and flexural strength, enhances ductility, and improves energy absorption during seismic events. It also helps control shrinkage-induced cracking in concrete by using hybrid FRP-reinforced shrinkage-compensating systems.

Process Of Wrapping

Remove dust and cement loose layer.
Repair of hairline cracks
Once the surface is prepared and primer dried, the next step is application of saturant.
Fiber wrap is then wetted with saturant or epoxy adhesive.
Fiber is then wrapped on the column skillfully.
If necessary, the fiber is once again saturated with an additional layer of saturant. Otherwise, saturant or epoxy adhesive is applied agaın onto the Ist wrap, tollowed by sprinkling sand for the application of protective plaster.
